Happy Groundhog’s Day!

February 3rd, 2013

Before it got called Groundhog’s Day, this ancient holiday of gestation and the promise of Spring was known as Imbolg (meaning ‘in the belly’) –when the sheep are ready to give birth (which the sheep at Blossom Center will soon do –see events listings).  Also known as the Festival of Brigid, for the saint/ goddess, and as Candlemas for the tradition of lighting candles to symbolize the light returning to earth as we move from the dark of winter to the bright and fruitful days of summer.

On this holiday of bright promise, we begin a website for growing communication and interaction to improve quality of life in the village of Middlefield, and the region of the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts, bordering the Berkshire Mountains and the Connecticut River Valley.  May this site help plant seeds affirming life, liberty, and collaborative pursuit of happiness for people and earth.
